Palliative care is designed for those who have advanced illness but are |
continuing curative therapies. Care includes physician consultation and a |
continuum of support services for the patient and family. Palliative care can |
be a time to gather information about how an illness is likely to progress, |
including an assessment of current physical, psychological and spiritual |
needs and initial planning for end of life care. |
Hospice is personal care that focuses on pain control and symptom |
management, rather than cure-oriented treatments. Typically, a hospice |
patient has a life expectancy of weeks or a few months, rather than years. |
Hospice includes physical, spiritual and emotional care for patients and their |
families and is tailored to a patient's needs and preferences. Care is |
designed to bring comfort and is provided wherever the patient resides, |
